John Brickley is a craftsman, working with exotic wood veneers to create exquisite designs and pictures using a technique called marquetry. Marquetry is the art and craft of covering a structural frame with pieces of veneer forming decorative patterns, designs or pictures. John got his start in marquerty through a friend who was trying his hand at it and thought it might be something John would enjoy, too. John's fascination with the art form grew exponentially over the following years. Once started, he hasn't stopped, from that first piece on a poker chip box, veneering the cabinets in his home, to crafting stunning pieces of furniture, and all the while creating increasingly complex designs and beautiful pictures with veneers. Initially self-taught, he soon began seeking out others to help in his quest for perfection, studying with masters in the field, such as Gordon Merrick and Tom Shrunk.
John Brickley lives in Running Springs, CA with his wife and young daughter. He is enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the mountain life, where he appreciates the beautiful scenery and can daily engage in some of his favorite activities, hiking and fishing.
