Darleen Ortlieb

As a certified Wildlife Rehabilitator, Darleen gets her inspiration for her work from the wildlife she cares for.  She has rehabilitated everything from hummingbirds to hawks and chipmunks to bears.  She is also the trainer for “Lexus”, Wildhaven’s educational bobcat. Darleen was born in New Jersey and received her degree from Cazenovia College in New York.  She taught art at the high school level.  She was also active in dance and theatre.  Darleen has been a Fine Arts and Cultural Affairs Commissioner for the past l6 years in the City of Los Alamitos, CA.  Eight years ago she found “nature’s perfect canvas”, a California, hard shell gourd.  These particular gourds are grown by her brother Henry Ortlieb in Anaheim, CA.  They allow her to pyroengrave, carve and paint her wildlife art on various sizes and shapes.  She considers it a perfect combination of art and nature.Darleen’s work can be found in many private collections across the United States and Hawaii and can be seen in many art shows and festivals throughout California.  Her work can also be found locally at the Blue Jay Art Gallery.
