Hummingbird Ferne Sirois “Hapuu”

Hummingbird began drawing at the tender age of 5, was considered a child prodigy and was awarded a scholarship to Chouinard Art Institute at the age of 14. Hummingbird did graduate studies at Otis Parsons School of Design.
 
A multi-talented artist, Hummingbird first had a career in the performing arts a soloist dancer in Napua StevensÕ Polynesian Review using the stage name, Kiahi Manu. While living in Kailua, Kona, Hawaii, the inspiration and urge to paint resulted in the series of plein-air watercolors of Hawaii and Oahi Islands. When Kilawea erupted and flowed into the Pacific, Pele the fire-goddess became a powerful new inspiration for a new series of oil paintings still in progress.
 
Appearing on over 400 PBSTV stations world wide on the instruction art series ÒJoy of PaintingÓ and ÒBob Ross Art ShowÓ, Hummingbird is considered an authority in the field of painting. After being published on limited edition collector plates by Fairmont China, was commissioned by the Hamilton Mint to create a series of pastels.
 
Commissions for murals began with frescos-murals for AME Methodist Church and Church of Scientology commissioned a series of murals. Child Development of Long Beach requested a mural for the Queen Mary Events Park In May 2005, the design and completion of mural for the Baldwin Park Museum, resulted in recognition from the Legislature, Senate and Mayor of Baldwin Park, along with the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
 
Also enjoying a career in animation films, Sirois produced backgrounds and characters for Churchill Entertainment on films entitled ÒUncle ElephantÓ and ÒStanley and the DinosaursÓ that can be seen on PBSTV nationwide. Hummingbird has also produced fashion designs and illustrations for FredericksÕ of Hollywood, Catalina Sportswear, Kama Sutra Lotus Wear, and Scribbles Fashions.
 
Hummingbird has a Native American heritage (Sioux) and is noted for her sensitive handling for western themes. The drawings, paintings, monotypes, and murals reveal a passion for history, romance, and mystical spirituality.
