Sellinger came to
Joni’s resulting mixed media and watercolors are gentle, yet sparked with vibrant strength. Working only with live models, she may spend up to two months or more on her large paintings. Starting with the models, she first makes pencil drawings and only when she feels satisfied with the composition does the watercolor painting start. It’s the warmth of the relationship with her models that sets her apart from the more detached artist. Joni sums it up nicely: ”These pa1intings become my friends and when people look at the expressions of the faces I paint, I want them to be able to relate with their own feelings and emotions.” |
