Maureen Lacoste Stratton
Born of Peruvian and Scottish descent, Los Angeles native, received an RN degree in 1973, and graduated from California State University Northridge in 1991, with a second degree in Kinesiology. Along with raising 3 children, running marathons, traveling and learning horsemanship during this time she successfully started and managed a medical management company from 1994, until recently selling it. This allowed her to pursue her lifelong desire to oil paint that brought her to train under the tutelage of Julia Diller in Los Angeles, California just one year ago.
Maureen has always been drawn to the extremes of the California landscape and with nature itself. Her love of running, horses and extensive travel over the years have inspired her to appreciate the natural beauty and peace that nature invokes. Thus last year, when she finally had to time to pick up a paintbrush, it quickly became apparent to her that she wanted to recreate that beauty on canvas for others to enjoy.
She found her inspiration in art through the works of the masters, impressionists such as Monet and contemporary artists such as Richard Schmid, Steven Christensen, Howard Terpning and Clyde Aspevig to name a few; hoping to someday achieve the skills she so admires.
Her goal is to create canvas "windows" where one can lose themselves in her painting for a short time and capture a sense of peace that she experienced while there.
Maureen currently belongs to the mountain arts network www.mountainartsnetwork.org and is working at becoming represented, along with entering juried shows. She is an avid fan of Southwest Art Magazine and belongs to the Gene Autry Museum, and supports the Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition each year.
